Why Custom Fitting?

Putters are used more times per round than any other club but manufacturers still churn out putters at 34'' to 35'' in length and yet the average length used by Tour Professionals is 32''. Let's look at the reasons for this and what we are trying to achieve by having a custom fit putter.

Our objective is to make you a putter that has the most chance of striking the ball square to the intended line and with the correct loft at impact to make the ball roll true.

Using the Dave Hicks Custom Fitting Tool and the Dave Hicks Putting Mirror we can find the right length, loft, lie angle, shaft position with or without offset and finally grip size to suit your preference.

Putter length
This is the number 1 requirement that starts the process to improving your putting and if it is not corrected you are seriously compromised. A putter that is too long prevents the eyes being over the ball at address which is generally accepted as being the correct position. It also promotes a smaller bio-mechanical arm arc during putting making it more difficult to arrive at impact square to the intended direction.

By having a putter to the correct length your head movement when looking at the line of the putt is looking along the line and not across. The bio-mechanical arm arc of the putter is larger and straighter so the margin for error at impact is reduced.

Loft at impact
After putter length the loft at impact is the 2nd most important requirement. Buying a putter of the rack does not take into consideration how you address or strike your putts. Your hand position at address or during the stroke could be increasing or decreasing the loft at impact. This can cause inconsistency and lack of distance control.

Lie angle
Incorrect lie angle will cause directional problems and the Dave Hicks custom fitting tool with lasers ensures your putter will have the correct lie angle.

Shaft position
Whether you prefer your hands in front of the ball at address, in line or behind we can build a putter to suit your style with varying degrees of offset if required.

Grip size
All types and sizes to suit your preference.
